V.C. Bird International Airport is located on the island of Antigua, 8 km northeast of St. John's, the capital of Antigua and Barbuda. Built in 1942 by the U.S. Army as Coolidge Airfield, V. C. Bird International was renamed in 1985 in honor of the country’s first Prime Minister, Vere Cornwall Bird Sr. Its airport code comes from the island’s name, ANtigUa.
