Baltimore–Washington International Airport is located 14 km south of downtown Baltimore and 51 km northeast of Washington, D.C. Originally Friendship International (perhaps the best airport name ever), Baltimore/Washington International was renamed in 1973 and again in 2005 to honor Thurgood Marshall, former U.S. Supreme Court justice. BWI is a focus city for Southwest Airlines, and is the second largest airport by number of departures for that airline after Chicago–Midway.
