Split Airport is an airport serving the city of Split. The airport was the second busiest in Croatia. It is a major destination for leisure flights during the European summer holiday season. Formerly Resnik Airport, Split Airport gets its first two letters from the city it serves, SPlit. The ‘U’ isn't as clear, but could come from “Salonae PalatiUm”, long-believed (erroneously) to be the origin of the city’s name.
