Mariscal Sucre International Airport is the busiest airport in Ecuador and one of the busiest airports in South America. It is located in the Tababela parish, about 18 kilometres east of Quito and serves as the largest hub of TAME. It is named after Antonio José de Sucre who fought for the independence of Quito, in what is now Ecuador. Because the FCC reserved codes starting with ‘Q’, it opted for other letters from its home city of QUItO.
